Mitch CushmanI actually had this question asked of me before. The reasons I volunteer in Laramie are it is where I live and there are a myriad of opportunities here to help my friends, neighbors, and those that can’t help themselves anymore or never could. There are many places that need help in the world, but my influence can reach Laramie with my direct efforts. If I can help those here with what talents God has given me, perhaps any one of those I help will be able to reach more later.
My advise for those are looking to do helpful things is to start in your local community and discover the needs there; practice problem solving with like minded people and then expand to bigger things if you are led to go. The reasons I volunteered with AACT are my history in Law Enforcement and my positions on other non profits. |
In My 33 years in law enforcement, I developed a strong desire to be fair and deal with those that take advantage of others in vulnerable positions of life; AACT seeks to educate those around our community to what local human trafficking looks like, then intervene appropriately, extract the victim legally, recover them emotionally, and put them on the road to long term recovery.
We also look to ways we can make laws to help make it more difficult for traffickers to be in our area. It is intriguing to attempt to hit all of these areas and have a chance to do this locally. This hits prevention, intervention, extraction, and recovery which is an outstanding goal for one board.
